A desire for an American education brought Adil Baguirov thousands upon thousands of miles from the Soviet Union to the United States at a young age. He abandoned studies at a prestigious Moscow university for studies at a small school in Michigan, hoping to achieve business goals in a new land.
As Baguirov grew to a business leader many years later, including undertaking a new role as Principal of American Power in Dayton, Ohio, he looked toward the community to give back -- and give back in education. It was in 2013 that he was elected by peers and the entire Dayton community the Dayton Board of Education. His many successes among transportation, teaching, academics and even the immense district budget led to his role as the Board’s president. His love for education, which brought him to the U.S., was always apparent and guided decisions continuously as Baguirov aimed to bring the best in decision-making to everyone in Dayton Public Schools throughout his four-year tenure.
